We are fully operational during the current lockdown, and are working in line with the government guidelines.  In the first instance, please contact us by e-mail on to enable us to assist you.  For urgent legal requirements such as Will signings, we have an outdoor courtyard signing facility in place.  Please be assured we will do all we can to assist you.

We are open for appointments by prior arrangement

We are able to see clients in our offices.  We have a large meeting room which can easily facilitate appointments, whilst adhering to the two meter social distancing rules.  Please telephone to make an appointment. However, due to the Government Guidelines, all appointments to the office, including those for Swears and Statutory Declarations, which carry a £5.00 & £2.00 per Exhibit (no VAT) fee, will now carry an additional £25.00 (plus VAT) charge.  This is due to the fact that a file has to be opened for each and every person who attends (track & trace) and the Board Room has to be sterilised before and after each appointment. 

Social Distancing

We are still completely operational.  Please do contact us (by phone, e-mail, or post) with regard to any help you may require.  Our work force are working remotely and where office attendance is necessary (to access paper files, or deal with Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney etc.) there is never more than one person in the office at any one time.

Coronavirus Update

Some of you may be anxious to get your legal affairs in order in particular with regards to Lasting Powers of Attorney (for either or both your health and well being and or your finances) and/or your Will. We can deal with these for you remotely via e-mail, and/or post, so if you are self-isolating, or do not wish to come to an office, the works can be done remotely for you. If you are house bound and not infectious we can come to you! If you need help with your affairs, please e-mail us on with your requirements.

Just in case staff at Anna Arthur & Associates have to self- quarantine.  Procedures are already in place for the firm to effectively operate with minimal (if any) disruption.

The Parish Church and Friends of Ripley Primary have got together to see if there is a way they can make volunteers available to help the sick and/or housebound as the Corona Virus spread continues  Anna Arthur & Associates are signed up via The Ripley Reporter, to offer assistance if needed.

Stamp Duty

As per the Government’s recent announcements, stamp duty rates are changing for residential property purchases up to the 31st March 2021.  Please do contact us, if you are thinking of buying and would like your revised stamp duty calculated.

Budget Update:

Inheritance tax (IHT) nil rate bands The nil rate band has remained at £325,000 since April 2009 and is set to remain frozen at this amount until April 2021. An additional nil rate band, called the ‘residence nil rate band’ (RNRB), continues to be phased in. For deaths in 2019/20 it is £150,000 rising to £175,000 for deaths in 2020/21. Thereafter it will rise in line with CPI.

Stamp Duty Land Tax (SDLT) surcharge A SDLT surcharge on non-UK residents purchasing residential property in England and Northern Ireland is to go ahead. The 2% surcharge is to take effect from 1 April 2021. Where contracts are exchanged before 11 March 2020 but complete or are substantially performed after 1 April 2021, transitional rules may apply.
